According to a media report in the Mail & Guardian the post office is under administration and announced on May 6 that 5 000 employees would be dismissed based on operational requirements and a further 1 000 offered early retirement. It seems that to cut costs use was made of temporary employees. This caused a rift amongst employees and resulted in the formation of additional trade unions.
