The 23rd Labour Law Conference, held last week at the Sandton Convention Centre, was attended by about 940 delegates. The newly appointed Judge President of the Labour Courts, the honourable Mr Justice Dunstan Mlambo, opened the conference. He made it clear that there are many challenges that need to be addressed but is confident that solutions will be found, more particularly to the unacceptable delays in resolving disputes.
The Minister of Labour referred to the proposed amendments to labour legislation and stressed that the ‘draft’ reported in the media was simply a draft and had not yet been considered by cabinet. In a report on 8 August 2010 City Press quoted the full text of the “current draft Labour Relations Amendment Bill and proposed changes to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, 20100808”.

As will appear from the Report it is still in an early stage of drafting but a number of important amendments are being proposed or considered. These will be studied and commented on in due course.

I read in Legalbrief that another Bill is in the making in which the whole question relating labour brokers will be addressed. Do you know anything about it?
Hi Linden, I do not know anything about another Bill. I cannot believe that there is another Bill given that this one is very recent and the Minister of Labour did not suggest that there was another Bill.
