“Dress up, it’s a strike
Reuters reports that topless dancers at the renowned Crazy Horse nightclub in Paris have gone on strike, saying that they are not being paid enough to take the shirts off their backs. The Crazy Horse was forced to cancel performances this week for the first time since the cabaret was created in 1951. Full frontal nudity and the bottom line have always had a complicated relationship.”
In 1972 I visited the Crazy Horse with my brother. After being seated and packed in like sardines at benches I had grave doubts about being served with the drinks we were forced to order before the show. I should not have been such a pessimist as somehow the drinks were brought to us during the show although I hardly noticed as my eyes were fixed on the stage where attractive girls danced in subdued light without any clothes.
This gives rise to all sorts of creative possibilities. For a start teachers could carry banners reading “No learning without teaching”, civil servants could vent their ire by swearing to be civil AND to serve for one whole day, and municipal employees could pick up the litter in any of our urban streets and place it in the bins they then refuse to tip into the streets.
I love the headline!
