According to press reports at the Cosatu conference currently in progress a proposal was adopted that the deputy president should lead the alliance from 2017 and presumably become the president of South Africa thereafter.  It seems that unions were ‘careful not to mention names but emphasised that the principle that the deputy president of the ANC should become its leader would boost confidence and bring stability to the ANC’.
